Tommy Tutone was the new wave group that hit in 1982 with "867-5309/Jenny." There never was a real Jenny, says co-writer Alex Call, who also pulled the phone number out of thin air. Lead singer Tommy Heath says the repetitious lyric is like thought control: "It's catchy and it's fun to do... once a day." Though a headache if it was your home number, today 867-5309 is in high demand by businesses for its memorability.
